My primary role is a homemaker. Organize. Clean. Cook. Garden. Fix. Mow. Create. Sew. Plant. Wash. Recycle. Compost. Paint. Stain. Install. Decorate. Harvest. Freeze. Can. Jam. Build. Invent. Design. Exercise. Inspire. Help. Drive. Shop. Repeat.
Moms who work full time, especially single moms – you are the most badass people in this world. I’ve tried working more and it just doesn’t work out. The home and relationships inside of it seem to fall apart when I work too much.
I love to work efficiently. When I worked on a Flower Farm – I planted 700 sunflower seeds in an hour and a half… When I worked a banquet event for 500 people – I set up the buffet tables in less than an hour. When I clean the bathrooms – I clean them all at the same time while the laundry is running. My style is task-driven. I’d prefer to work hard for a few hours then take it easy… then work hard again for a few hours. It’s just my style. I also love naps.
Seeing that I also juggle 1,001 things for my four girls – school, sports, and after school activities – not to mention food, clothing, hair + nail care, and their general well-being. I love that there’s always something to do – so how can work, or a job, or a sense of purpose outside of the home …. fit in?
I don’t know…. but…. I have a few ideas.
By a few I mean many… live on a large lot with a multi-use farm building. An indoor and outdoor place to grow and sell plants. A space for coffee, tea, soup, sandwiches, bread. Land to build miles of ice skating trails. Make + sell jams, baked goods, home sewn items, seedlings. Farm experiences – magical garden trails with fairy houses and flowers. A year-round indoor/outdoor kitchen. A campfire spot. An obstacle course area for the kids. A playdate place for moms – with a full kitchen, craft area, play area, outdoor natural playground, childcare help, and of course… coffee, tea… or latte machine!
I have many other ideas – that’s where they stand for now.
