Canton, CT –
The connectivity of trails in Canton to Simsbury to Granby is very impressive! I admire those who’s foresight and efforts preserved this land!
In the spirit of hiking, I stayed outdoors for this visit, despite the main attraction here being a nature center.
Around the parking area and nature center, there were small trails with “fun fact” signs scattered thruought. Butterflies, plants, birds, nesting styles, wetlands, vernal pools, frozen frogs, hollow tree habitats… and more… were a few of the many things the signs highlighted. I read a few but photographed others for reading later. While I didn’t go inside the building, I had a lovely “outdoor” nature center hike.
The entrance featured a trail map, which I photographed and brought with me. The trails are criss-cross a bit, making for a lovely “exploring the woods” vibe. The trails were a mix of rocky/technical/muddy and flat/woodchippy. The identifications of level, moderate, up/down, climbing were spot on.
I enjoyed crossing over a dam on a narrow, fenced-in walkway. Then I hiked about a mile on the quary trail, a mile on the plantation trail, and a half mile back on the Werner Pond Trail. (Which I’d seen signs for from my Simsbury/Granby run a week prior – pretty neat how continuous the trails out this way are!
