If you’re heading to the southwest side of Florida, you MUST visit the Audobon Corkscrew Swamp Society! It is one of a kind 10 out of 10 serenity. Honestly, I discovered it in my Google search for an alligator. Our family did an airboat tour thru the alligator filled marshes, so I was hoping to try something new – experience seeing one out on the trail. The Audobon place popped up and immediately caught my full interest!

While I didn’t spot an alligator there, it was 10 out of 10 better than what I expected! I parked, walked 5 minutes to the visitor center check-in, paid the $17 admission, and inquired about mission alligator. The very friendly worker there said there might be one or two migrating in right now, but it wasn’t peak alligator season yet. A little disappointed, but grateful this realistic expectation was established. I grabbed a photo of the trail map and learned it would be nearly 2.5 miles of a boardwalk trail and I’d see the oldest cypress trees in the world! I love that she encouraged me to stop in that area and soak in all the serenity. Instead of alligator hunting, I shifted to tree loving.

I made my way outdoors and began my 2.4mile walk. It was 100% on raised boardwalk! An impressive trail! I believe September is the off season so I enjoyed there being no one in sight in either direction! Eventually I was walking near other visitors, and a school group, but it wasnt for long and still maintained a very quiet, peaceful vibe.
Sprinkled along the trail are many informational signs – many of the 300+ year old trees were named after those who worked to protect that swamp. If it wasn’t for their efforts in the early 1900’s, this attraction might not exist. Thank you to those with a preservation mindset.
Again, an awesome place to visit for all ages. Enjoy!
