I love that my kids school still does spelling tests. Weekly spelling tests!
Last week my 3rd and 5th graders both amazed me with their tests!
3rd grader missed 2 weeks of school due to Covid exposures. On week 2 she didn’t have the new spelling words (nor did we do much schoolwork…). She returns to school on a Friday, takes the test… and gets 100%!!
She is a quick, intuitive learner!!
My 5th grader returns to school a little sooner, gets her spelling and vocab words. We study and practice these at bedtime, and on the drive to school. I quiz her. We practice the words she spells wrong. We slowly pronounciate each word. She has note cards for each word. She studies sooo welll!!
And it pays off!! I mean look at these words!! TRANSUBSTANTIATION! I don’t even know what that means! Do you…?
Her teacher is tough – if the words are spelled wrong on another part of the test, she loses points there too! But she is getting so good at spelling – it’s working!
I bet if you quizzed someone (an adult) in your house, they wouldn’t get 100 on these words.
I am so proud of my daughters! They are smart and working hard!
